Learning from a textbook can be extremely ineffective
We all have different ways of learning, yet fall into the trap of thinking that if we all buy the same textbook it will get us all speaking French fluently. WRONG!

I was told that I was too stupid to learn French

In every school I have taught in around the world, inspectors would get excited about my teaching method. I became an 'outstanding' teacher and a Lead Practitioner.

At first I would 'perform' for the inspectors, and show the children how to 'perform' for the exam. But it was so false, and nobody could speak French confidently. They passed the exam, but it was neither effective, nor a fun way of learning.

So, when I needed to learn some Arabic in 2015, I had to teach myself quickly and effectively. All those years of teaching others paid off. Even though I had joined an Arabic class, I was the one 'out there', getting to talk and learn more from having conversations with others in Arabic. It started small . . . and built up.

Module 1 - Welcome

We will meet once a week to have a deeper dive into being creative with the vocabulary and how to apply it to your life. There will be breakout groups to get more creative and independent task ideas to do during the week.
Call 1 - Making Yourself Understood.
Live call scheduled for 5 Apr 23 - Setting the scene in the initial negotiations of communication is vital. In this section you’ll be making yourself understood from the outset using REAListic vocabulary. It’s often hard to interrupt or stop what seems like the flow of a conversation, but it’s a monologue unless you do so.
Call 2 - Comment ça va?
Live call scheduled for 12 Apr 23 - All too often we just ask and answer with no real desire to have a conversation. What a missed opportunity to practice saying why you feel the way you do. We shall be looking at the two verbs AVOIR and ÈTRE in context, using Tu & Vous, and finally developing adverbs and adjectives to get more descriptive.
Call 3 - Quel temps fait-il?
Live call scheduled for 19 Apr 23 - Using the weather as a conversation trigger is a great way to connect with people you don’t know, especially in places like your local boulangerie, for example. We don’t just say the weather though, oh no . . . this is a springboard for using connectives like and / but / because (and beyond if you wish).
Call 4 - What you like doing.
Live call scheduled for 26 Apr 23 - So you’ve opened a great conversation and brought in the weather... maybe you’re invited to join in a picnic, or a walk… So let’s develop how to express your opinions in a friendly way. This way you’ll find out what people like doing in your town or village.
Call 5 - How to ask questions.
Live call scheduled for 3 May 23 - Generate any question to be more part of the conversation. Just how powerful is that? Now you’re really taking the reins of the conversation. This interactive session will go as deep as the group permits! You’ll be practicing ways of expressing your opinion far more clearly.
