Navigate 8 great Tech expressions

You are going to discover 8 expressions that French people can say every day.

The first one describes someone who spends a lot of time in front of a screen

• être scotché devant un écran  >>> to be glued to a screen

Like the following:

• Ils sont scotchés devant un écran toute la journée.  >>> They’re glued to a screen all day.

Note that the word “scotché” comes from a brand of tape.

This funny one expresses someone who loses control.

• péter un câble  >>> to freak out

Here’s an example with the expression:

• Si l’ordinateur plante encore une fois, je vais péter un câble. >>> If the computer crashes again, I am gong to freak out.

If your computer ever crashes, say this in French:

• planter  >>> crash

Like the following:

• Attention à ce logiciel, il risque de planter l’ordinateur. >>> Be careful with that software; it might crash the computer.

We do this every day and it’s the same in English

• surfer  >>> to surf.

An illustration in a real conversation:

• J’aime bien surfer sur le web pour lire des articles de voyage. >>> I rather like surfing the net to read travel articles.

The next two expressions describe something brand new:

• de dernier cri >>> state-of-the-art

Have a look:

• Son téléphone est de dernier cri , il a toutes les nouvelles fonctionnalités. >>> Her phone is really state-of-the-art; it has all the latest features.

And this one is the newest model:

• dernier né  >>> the latest.

A concrete example would be like this:

• Le dernier né de cette montre est vraiment impressionnant. >>> The latest (newest) model of this watch is impressive.

If something is trendy, say this in French

• dans le vent  >>> fashionable / trending

Like in this sentence:

• Cette appli est complètement dans le vent cette saison. Tout le monde l’utilise. >>> This application is totally fashionable / trending this season. Everyone is using it.

Finally, this expression can be applied in the field of technology, but also in the arts for movies or books:

• ça vient de sortir >>> it has just come out

I have an example for you:

• Ce  micro vient de sortir et il est partout dans le vent. >>> This microphone has just come out and it’s already a raging success.
